Goat rearing has proved to be a boon to improve their economic condition by being less expensive and more profitable.


The total number of goats in the country is about 12 crores, which extends from the mountainous regions to the peacetime conditions of the sea coasts. About 20 percent of the world's goats are reared in India. They have 20 established breeds in India.


The special thing is that here many times more goats of uncultured breed are found than the number of these goats.  Of precious things like fiber It is available in form. Nowadays, humans have started using the land either to grow food for themselves or to build factories and houses.  The pastures are often finished. In such a situation it has become impossible to raise large animals. In such a situation, a small animal like a goat is capable of producing the above items for human beings, living on various roads and roads, canals, rivers etc.


Despite the large number of goats, the share of products obtained from them in India is very less in the Indian economy.


The main reasons for this are the goat being of an undescribed and inferior genetic race, lack of use of technical information related to reproduction and reproduction, mismanagement and undernutrition etc.


Therefore, in order to run a goat enterprise successfully, improvement of their breed is very important.  Goats are a versatile and simple animal, which is a favorite animal of all sections of the country today due to its small stature, ability to live in all kinds of climate and easy living habits.  Regular income can be obtained for the maintenance of the family by starting goat rearing with less capital and less resources.


Goat rearing in Rajasthan has been a powerful means of livelihood of the landless and poor people of the village since time immemorial, but the wonder is that even today goat farmers are not rearing it scientifically.


Protecting the goats from disease through proper maintenance, balanced nutrition and better management.


Goat spinach can achieve economic benefits in the following ways -


  • By selling milch goats.
  • By selling goats as meat.  
  • From the proceeds from wool and hides. 
  • By selling meganis as manure.  


If goat parents maintain and manage goats scientifically, then they will surely get more benefits, for which knowledge of the following things is very important.


Main breeds of Rajasthan


Mainly Sirohi, Marwari, Jakhana and Jamunapari breed goats in Rajasthan.


Sirohi :


This breed is found mainly in the areas around Aravalli ranges in Rajasthan and in Sirohi, Ajmer, Nagaur, Tonk, Rajsamand and Udaipur districts.  In this breed, disease resistance and drought tolerance are higher than other goats. 

 The animal of this breed is medium in size and body tight.  This breed is mainly reared for meat and milk. Its body color is light and dark brown and there are black, white and dark black spots on the body.  

In some animals, there are two finger-like fingers (fleshy part) under the throat and bearded hair on the underside of the jaw of the mouth.  Ears flattened, hanging downwards. They are long and petal and the tail is short and curved upwards.  

The average body weight of a reproductive male is 40–50 kg and that of a female is 30–35 kg.  Their milk production is 100 kg. (115 days). Goats of this breed often give birth to 2 children simultaneously.  


Marwadi :


This breed is found in Rajasthan, Jodhpur, Pali, Nagaur, Bikaner, Jalore, Jaisalmer and Barmer districts.  It is a medium sized black goat. Its body is covered with long hair. Ears are flat and medium-sized and hang downwards. 

 The average body weight of a male is 30–35 kg and that of a female is 25–30 kg.  An average of 200 grams of hair is obtained from their body in a year, which are used for making carpet / namda etc.  Their milk production is 95 kg. (115 days).  


Jakhrana :


This breed is found in Alwar district of Rajasthan and surrounding areas.  It is large in size and black in color. White colored spots are found on their mouth and ears.  

Their milk production is 120 kg.  (115 days) and their average body weight reaches 20 kg throughout the year.  Their adult male weight is 55 kg on average. Happens till .  


Jamnapari :


This breed is predominantly found in Chakranagar and Garhpura areas of Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh.  This area is located in the banks of the Yamuna and Chambal rivers. These goats thrive well in rugged and khadar areas where good grazing facilities are available.  At present, the number of their original breed is less than 6 thousand. For this reason, quick promotion is absolutely necessary. It is a large goat. Its color is white and sometimes spots are also found on the throat and head. 

 Their nose is raised which is called Roman nose.  It has tufts of hair. Roman hair and white hair in the back of the thighs is the main identity of this breed.  Their ears are very large and hanging. Horns are often found in both males and females.  


Body weight of adult male and females is 44 and 38 kg respectively.  it happens . Their length and height are 77/75 and 78/75 cm respectively.  it occurs . It is also a dukaji breed but milk production is obtained from it the most.  

These goats 200 kg in 194 days of milk.  Gives milk on average. Body weight of these goats is 21-26 kg in a year.  Till. It is also used in breed improvement programs.
